JULY'S FEATURED ARTIST

Meet Ray Luckhaupt

The world of wood working has been an evolutionary process for Ray Luckhaupt. He began with furniture and cabinet building, then proceeding to making "Objects of Art".  It requires immense skill with the tools necessary, such as the Lathe,  to make these beautiful pieces. The art pieces he creates are made from either a single block or segments of wood into rings which are then stacked to become a vessel. This vessel is then mounted on the lathe and turned to its final shape. Because individual segments are used, many different species of wood can be used creating some very interesting patterns. He has had as many as 36 different species of wood in my shop at one time both exotic and domestic woods. The individual beauty of the piece of wood selected determines much of the result. The color, grain pattern and"figure" in the wood differs widely and the skill of the turner to display the beauty of the wood is sometimes accidental as well as intended. That's the fun of it. He loves doing what he does and while he has slowed a bit do to the process of aging, he is continuing with his practice as long as he can.

Maggie Sullivan

Maggie Sullivan is a Theatre Arts and Public Relations major at Bradley University. You might have seen her in the recent production of She Kills Monsters as Tilly last year at the high school. Some of her mentionable credits include Co-directing the 2017 LiTE production Serial, and directing 14 Ways To Screw Up Your College Interview, which was chosen out of all the high school performances in Illinois to be one of the productions that performs at the Illinois High School Theatre Festival in 2018. She is now beginning rehearsals for Bradley University's fall musical-play, Peter and the Starcatcher. It is a wonderful story filled with child-like imagination and Maggie is very excited to be playing the
